We are just finishing our orientation here at Lighthouse in Action and are ready to get started in our ministries. Whether it is with monks in the temple, kids in the slum, or the girls in the bars; we are preparing to be His love to the world.
Last night many of us prayed together as some of our teammates and their parents hit the streets for ministry. After an hour of prayer, I was running out of steam and I opened my bible instead. I landed in Joel and as I read, a huge downpour of rain came out of nowhere. It was stunningly loud and some girls poked their heads out the windows to see where it came from.
I read on…
Joel 2:23-24
23 “Be glad, O people of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. 24 The threshing floors shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.”
This struck me because we were sitting in the Zion Hostel: We are the people of Zion. And that rain He promised is coming. The rain of righteousness; of forgiveness because He is faithful. And then we see that the abundant harvest follows the rain.
As the rain poured outside, I mulled over what I was reading, and what I was hearing. I saw that there was a promise of a great harvest, of much productivity. And I realized that the rains do not come at that time. That the rains are needed in the growing season.
And the promise I got at that moment was, “Even if you aren’t here to see the harvest, do not be discouraged, a great one is coming. You can trust that…because look, it is raining now…”
Though I am not sure what to expect of this month, I am going into it standing on that promise. Let’s do this!
