We are here in Latacunga at the Kid’s Home. I met a llama here on the grounds that we have affectionately named “Como Te Llamas”. Como Te is antisocial, though it probably doesn’t help that I accidentally chased her with a wheelchair during our walk today.
Working with special needs kids is new to me, but I love them and it’s only day one. Feeding is rough, since somehow I ended up having rice cereal on my glasses, but I will get the hang of it.
As we start month four of our journey, I have become introspective. I think about the things we are doing, and I wonder what my team thinks as well. So, I interviewed them. Below are the thoughts of our team:
Q: What is your favorite memory since leaving home?
Tristiana: Playing basketball with Stevenson a couple of days after I hurt my ankle. Bonding with the kids at the orphanage in Haiti was one of my favorite things I’ve done so far, and he was such a great sport, even though I could only hop on one leg while we were playing.
Q: Can you tell me an example of God’s goodness that you have seen so far on the Race?
Shannon: Healing. When we had a 24 hour prayer night in Bolivia, I learned about healing prayer, and you could just sense the Holy Spirit. And then we could practice it…seeing Kai healed and jumping around was amazing! And to be healed of my allergy, I am just overwhelmed by God’s goodness.
Q: What has been your favorite ministry so far?
Toby: The Prison Ministry. It was my favorite because it was so evident how Jesus used both our presence and the women in the prison to impact each other. The highlight was singing Amazing Grace together and just loving each other like sisters.
Q: What would be your ideal day of ministry?
Cass: My ideal day of ministry would be a day when I can love on people. Ideally people will receive but I don’t mind a challenge. Sometimes receiving is a little too easy. Ideally there are times when I can think and take some space…because I really like to pour out. Ideally, I would be aware of the spiritual battle remembering, though there may be frustration, who my enemy is.
Q: What are you most apprehensive about in the coming months?
Margot: I am most apprehensive about what sides of me could come out in more tense/difficult/rough situations. I want to stay grounded and Christlike and not let selfish parts take over.
Q: What do you most look forward to about this month?
Kai: Seeing God’s goodness HERE this Christmas season. I know I will miss my home but spending the holiday with my sisters, J-Squad, and the kids, I look forward to!
