Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
We often think that means that if we follow God, He will fulfill our wants. I don’t necessarily think that is the case. I truly think this means that if we are seeking God, he will place the desires in our hearts. Think about that.
Now God is not a god to be constrained by time. So when I think about little Caroline back in Elementary school with wanderlust (who everyday mapped out the route I would take when I ran off to see the world in my mind), I know that the desire was placed there for such a time as this. When I think of the fact that I was marked with compassion as a child (albeit paired with righteous anger at times) I know that is from God. I have a strong desire to help people which I cannot claim as my own either.
God gives us desires that line up with his heart. My desire to travel is from God. (Now get this right, not all desires are from Him. I desire chocolate a lot more than I should…so we need to use discernment before we start “blaming” the Spirit for out not so good desires.) With that said, I give you the “About me”:
- I love to travel (could you tell?)
- If there is something cute and fuzzy…I must touch it.
- I studied Environmental Science to help the cute fuzzy stuff.
- But it seems I talk to plants and fish more than the cute animals these days.
- I am a child of three states; Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina
- I have a heart for people all over the world (a given desire)
- And for that reason I taught for a year in South Korea
- That was a life changer as I saw breakthrough in so much of my life
- I claim to have the best family ever (because I do: HI MOM!)
- AND I love to eat really good food, and make art while listening to good music.
It’s hard to limit it to 10 but I thought that to be the best way to at least introduce myself. I know you will learn a lot more as the blog progresses. And hopefully I will learn about you all as well.
Blessings to my friends, new and old.
