It’s only month 3, and The Lord has taught me so much about the adventurous life he has always intended for me.
I had the opportunity to hike and camp on an active volcano with my team and a few Nicaraguans. As we were driving towards the volcano, one of my teammates, Cortney, and I began talking about how surreal our lives are. (Like who ever says they camped on top of an active volcano in Nicaragua!? ). Cortney mentioned how so many people told her they wish they could do something like this in their life too. With a huge smile on her face she said, “excuse my French, but I wanted to tell them to grow a pair and do it!”
And she is right!
Deciding to do the World Race seemed simple, but at times it felt like the hardest decision I’d ever make in my entire life. Leaving my family, friends, and the comforts of home for a year sometimes felt daunting. My stomach would hurt thinking about the next year, full of nervousness and fear. I asked myself plenty of times, “What am I doing? Why am I doing this?” And, I sobbed like a baby when I finally had to say goodbye to my mom.
It wasn’t easy.
It isn’t always easy.
But it’s also super fun!
Since being in the World Race, I’ve decided to live a life full of adventure. To live a life with no regrets. And honestly, you can too. You don’t have to travel to 11 different countries in 11 months to live a life full of love, suspense, adventure, joy, life, etc.
Adventure is different for everyone. For me it’s camping on an active volcano. But it doesn’t have to be. You can quit the boring job you hate and chase after your dream job. Move to the city you’ve always wanted to, but was to scared to leave home. Take a cooking class. Learn another language. Study abroad. Tell your friends about Jesus even though it might be uncomfortable. Ask out the girl you’ve had a crush on for months. Plan the backpacking trip you are always talking about. Take the homeless person you see everyday on your walk to work to McDonalds and get to know him. Be brave and ask your Muslim classmate to start a Quran/Bible study. Tell your mom you love her everyday. Forgive the person who’s hurt you the most. Forgive yourself for the things you most regret.
Do things you never thought you would. Do things you always thought were impossible.
If your life is boring, change it. God never intended life to be boring.
God created life to be the grandest adventure. The journey of a lifetime. He is patiently waiting for you to trust him.
So take what he is offering you. Don’t live in fear of the unknown. Embrace the wild ride Jesus wants to take you on.
YOU CAN DO IT!
