My name is Sakun, I am from Boeng Village, located in Baray District, Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia. I am 20 years old. I am a Christian and I love Jesus very much. I became a Christian three years ago and my life was drastically changed. When I became a Christian my family became very angry with me because they are Buddhist. Much of my village is Buddhist and Muslim, so Christians are looked down on very much. When my family heard about my new faith they became so enraged they pushed me down our house steps and I broke my leg.

I feared the persecution from my family and my village so I decided to run away to the city of Phnom Pehn. When living in Phnom Pehn I found work but asked my employer to please not tell my family where I was living and working if they came and asked for me. Unfortunately, my employer did not listen to me and after only a few months my family found me living in the city. Much to my surprise, my family begged me to come back home because they missed me. I decided to go back to my village and continue to serve Jesus.
Today I live in Boeng Village and live in my church with several of my students. When my students become Christians, they get kicked out of their homes and families so I live with several of them in our church room. I have a wonderful pastor named Kea who is over five churches in Baray District. Pastor Kea encourages me to continue following Jesus and praying for my family and village.
When I met The World Race team I was so happy. They came and helped teach English and Computer to my students, they also preached and prayed for my church. One of the World Racers, Carly, gave me a book called, “Jesus Calling”. This book was the first daily devotional that I have ever seen. The words I read sound like God is talking to me and I am very happy to have this book, I will use it to teach myself, my students, and my church.
Today, I teach English to my students and I work as a translator for foreigners when they come to Esther’s ministry site. I am the only Christian in my family but my mom is interested in coming to church which is a long way from how she felt three years ago when I first became a believer.

  • Please partner with me in praying for my family and my village to become Christians.
  • Please pray that I can continue growing in my faith and share the good news to my friends and family.
  • Please also pray for my pastor and church to continue growing and be encouraged because they are a minority in their village.
