In honor of the third route change I’ve had, I decided to come up with a facts list about the countries where I’ll be serving next year. The word “fact” is used here quite loosely.

January – Zambia: The flight from Atlanta to Lusaka, Zambia will take approximately 24 hours. Pretty sure in that time frame I can sing “Africa” by ToTo 40958204958409 times.

February – Malawi: Knowns as the “Warm Heart of Africa”. Which is good because….

March – Estonia: There will be a 50 degree difference between Malawi (80°) and Estonia (35°).

April – Latvia: Decorating Christmas trees started in Latvia back in 1510 when a group of drunk dudes grabbed a pine tree, propped it up, and put flowers on it. They then promptly burnt it down. I have a feeling I will fit in here.

May – Lithuania: The geographical center of Europe. NBD.

June – China: Fireworks were invented in China. Need I say more?

July – Mongolia: There’s a strong possibility I will spend my birthday in a yurt. In fact, that’s all I want for my birthday.

August – Thailand: It’s said Thailand has never been colonized. I’m not sure they’re taking into account the time I conquered it in Risk when I was ten.

September – Cambodia: Home of the largest religious structure in the world – Angkor Wat (Angkor Whhaattt!!). That’s never going to get old.

October – Vietnam: It’s illegal to take Vietnamese currency out of Vietnam. Guess what everyone’s presents will be!

November – Nepal: What did you do for Thanksgiving this year? Oh, I climbed Mount Everest. As one does. (Taking a few steps up Mount Everest counts as climbing it, right?)

FUNDRAISING UPDATE:

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my $11 on 11/11. I’m still waiting on these totals to post. The event held here in Charlotte brought in $800. I’m beyond thankful.

I still need an additional $2,000 to launch in January. Would you consider donating? Click the “Support Me” tab to the left.
