I think there’s some song lyrics that go something like: everybody has a story that will break your heart. Although this may be some short lived pop song, I see the
truth in this. By now, we’ve been
to 10 countries around the world and meet a whole bunch of different people –
sweet. I’ve found that everybody
has a story. Sometimes I have the
opportunity to find out a bit about their stories. Each are unique; each are moving. The people around us all have stories. Each story holds potential for more redemption. I believe God is a God
of Redemption. Jesus came to earth
and put flesh and bones on this character of God. He is always moving towards redemption. There’s more redemption to come.
I sense that the earth groans for redemption. I believe within the shackled alcoholic’s
swig there’s a cry for redemption, the parent who chooses to abandon rather
than care speaks of a longing for redemption… the power hungry
professional aches for something that is perpetually unobtainable… the
religious church goer hollowly walking around the mark alludes to an unmeet
desire that religion and tradition just doesn’t quite fulfill… this longing for a greater sense of purpose,
beauty, meaning and joy of life… I feel it… this movement towards
redemption…it’s just above our reach.
Redemption cannot be found in our own pursuits, however noble
and well-earned they may be… every good and perfect gift comes from the Father
above who never changes. I see that He gives us all sorts of gifts that are humanly
unobtainable.
We all have a greater form of redemption that God has for us
to step into, live out… what is it for you? What is it for the people you will meet, see, interact with
today…? It may come with a
fleeting and seemingly high price. I need to wake up to this, and run towards
heaven-sent redemption, as it collides with our lives and those around us.
Thanks for taking the time to read some of my thoughts.
