Dynamics!
A time of changes for me: new continent, new position, new team!
For our O
squad, (the whole 42 of us who are on June world race) we have identified this
as a new season for our squad marked by joy and identity. We also have another squad leader
step up that compliments the others, and another squad member will be rejoining
us after stepping off the field after her mom passed away.
WHEN: Team changes were announced just before debrief. We had debrief in Nairobi, Kenya- a
time to reflect on our past 3 months and receive teaching from the some of the
organization’s fantastic leaders.
During debrief we also found out the new teams.
WHAT: I am now a team leader, and I have some super amazing
people to be with!
WHO: Rachelle Uribe, Sarah Hogan, Mary Hollis, Dan
Montenegro, Jeremiah Reynolds and I will be rockin out.
What: Team
Name: We are Doves. Doves represent characters that our team will emanate:
- peace – we will bring peace, experience, and be peace.
- true and gentle love – we will choose to love one another
- the Holy Spirit – we will have the fruits of the Holy Spirit
and be led by the Holy Spirit - bird’s eye view perspective by recognizing the bigger
picture in situations, and that we are a piece of the puzzle. - Song of Songs 2: 14 – My dove in the clefts of the rock, in
the hiding places on the mountainside, show me your face, let me hear your
voice; for your voice is sweet and lovely. We desires to see, and hear God and recognize He is
lovely. - Dove’s eyes – we strive to have undistracted devotion only
to God. Dove’s have these crazy
cool eyes that can focus in and see only one thing at a time. We want to see what and how God sees,
have vision that is untainted by our own perspectives or experiences.
WHERE: We’re in
Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. Wow
I really do love it here. We are
staying at Lighthousel. This month the O squad boys… I mean men
haha… have Man-istry month so this means that the Dove girls are with Team
Harmony girls. We’re in Chiang Mai
until December 27th and then on our way to Cambodia.
HOW is it going:
overall: awesome. The
ministry here is an honour to be a part of. Our ministry contact is great – Emmi is Thai and has
developed a ministry where she seeks to show Jesus to people in Chiang Mai’s
Red Light District. She also has a
café, which provides employment opportunities, and is connected with the
villages where many of the people who work in the Red Light District come
from.
During the afternoon, we work at the café, or go to Chaing
Mai University to talk with people – build relationships… we’ve connected with
the university’s Campus Crusades.
In the evenings we’re closing out the bars, hanging out with the women
and Ladyboys that work there. The
goal is to build relationships, show these people we are interested and care
for them as people, show them God’s love and connect them with Emmi and people
here in Chaing Mai. In a country
that is 94% Budhist, coming to Christ is a journey and in a couple lives, we
may get to be a piece of the puzzle.
WHY: Why not.
Oh yah and since we’re on the topic of new things… just a
minor detail – I have a new hair
cut. I had some chop chop chop
suey here in Chiang Mai and said goodbye to the long locks.
