Getting to Cambodia was a busy time. Travel days meant many things to take care of and at least a full day of bus travel in a Dramamine induced haze.
By the time my team got to the house we’re currently staying at, I was exhausted. We settled in a little bit and then went off to find dinner and the Phnom Penh House of Prayer (PPHOP).
Dinner was hard to find but at last we were fed and at the House of Prayer. I didn’t know what to expect at PPHOP. I didn’t know if I would be able to understand anything, but it didn’t matter. The Lord knew what I needed. It was worship night and all of the songs were in English!
Even though I was in serious need of physical rest, I found something so much greater—spiritual rest.
The songs quieted my heart and mind from all of the craziness of the past week and the items still left on my to-do list. As I entered a true place of worship, I began to ask God what it was that He wanted for me, for Phnom Penh and for my team’s time in Cambodia. He answered with a word…Boldness.
Boldness in leaving the comfort of Thailand. Boldness in speaking the gospel. Boldness in sharing love.
Then they started to play the song “You Said.” It’s a song I’ve always liked but I hadn’t heard it in awhile. It’s a song that is now taking on new meaning in my current phase of life:
“You said, ask and you will receive whatever you need
You said, pray and I’ll hear from heaven and I’ll heal your land
You said, Your glory will fill the earth like water the seas
You said, lift up your eyes
The harvest is here, the kingdom is near, you said
Ask and I’ll give the nations to you
Oh Lord that’s the cry the of my heart
Distant shores and the islands will see your light as it rises on us
O Lord we ask for the nations
O Lord we are asking for the nations”
As I sang these lyrics, boldness began to make more sense. God wants me to ask for the nations. He is listening. He is moving. His glory is filling the earth!
This month my team’s ministry is Unsung Heroes. Unsung Heroes are Christians in Cambodia who are serving those in need—physically, emotionally, spiritually. They are believers who are growing the Kingdom of God with limited resources and may not be linked to support or whose names are not out yet.
Our hope and prayer is that we will meet these people in an effort to understand their ministry, see if they might be potential ministry hosts for future World Racers, and/or offer them exposure through the Internet and blogs. We won’t be providing Unsung Heroes with financial support but we do want to encourage them and do what we can to help them build their network to continue the work God has called them to in Cambodia.
As my team begins another unstructured ministry month, filled with asking the Lord where He wants us to go, I am asking God for Cambodia. I am asking God to use us in a special way to meet these unsung heroes who are serving the least of these (Matt 25:34-40).
I am asking God to show up in ways I can’t even imagine right now.
I am asking God for this nation.
You can be a part of our ministry this month. Do you know anyone in Cambodia who might be an Unsung Hero or who might know some? Even a friend of a friend.
Would you pass along their contact information (email and/or phone number) to me at [email protected]? We would LOVE to get in touch with them!
(If you don’t know someone in Cambodia but in another country still let me know, I’ll pass on the information to other teams!)
Finally, will you pray for our team? Will you ask God for Cambodia with me?
