Going into the Race I knew my lifestyle would look drastically different for the next year. Different diets, schedules, cultures, etc. I did not go in expecting that Id be able to run nearly as much or as long as at home if at all. The fact we can NEVER be alone on the race puts up another barrier. So any expectations I had of enjoying running this year were not high at all
Then at training camp I met Paige Jaquish. A women who I have been able to spend Months 1-4 and Months 8-11 (God willing) with on the same team. This incredible women of God has become one of my dearest Sisters and friends. God has given her such a sweet, gentle, humble, and wise spirit which has in turn revealed many of His truths to me on this journey.
In addition God has given her the same love for running as me. As I look back on the months thus farI hold precious and favorite memories of us running together:
-on the brisk beaches of Muizenberg, South Africa
-in a rain shower on the mountains of Swaziland
-in the grueling polluted air and high elevation of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
-up to the display of the 10 Commandments of Camp Sinai in the Philippines
-in the hot muggy jungle of Vang Vieng, Laos
-in the green and gorgeous mountains of Las Lajas, D.R.
Although the “never be alone” rule of AIM frustrates me to the max at times, I have to thank them for doing so. It has not only blessed me with an incredible running partner, but it had deepened the bond between my Sister and I.
I hold this more recent memory of us: Sweating and chugging up a tough hill, lungs ready to burst and muscles aching, no words necessary. The sun coming up over the trees casts a shadow ahead of us running in stride side by side together, two friends enjoying each other and our Father’spresence. Thank you Jesus for your precious gifts.
