Malaysian Month 5: A long way from Home

Scooters. Island adventures. Camping on the beach.  God time. Sunsets. Waterfalls. Snot, vomit, and accidents. Monkeys. White sand. Listening prayer. Kindergarteners. Screaming crying children. Heard scarves. Aladdin pants. Noodles and rice. Stillness. Team bible studies. Circuits and pull up challenge. Milk tea and iced coffee in a bag. Palm trees. Stares. Cats. Fried food. Intimacy with the Father. Night markets.

This month was not like your typical World Race month in terms of ministry. Due to the countries restrictions and persecution of Christians, we were not able to share   Jesus to anyone. It was definitely a challenge after being so open and eager to share for the previous months.

It was a hard pill to swallow saying goodbye to relationships that we had only dipped our feet into. I felt at a loss and felt discouraged by it at times. The teachers we worked with and the man who owned to food tent we ate as almost every night had no idea where our hearts were. Our shortened month only added to feelings of hopelessness.

The last day came, and God showed me differently. We gave the teachers thank you cards, and one of them had to wipe away tears. Later, we went to lunch with two of them and one paid for our lunch while the other bought us bracelets. Then later still, the one who had bought out lunch found us in the neighborhood and had cards, necklaces, and a cake for us. And then when we went to our friend at his food tent he bought us our drinks and had key chains for us.

I walked away from these gifts astounded. Had we really touched these people’s lives? Had the love of Jesus shown through solely through our actions and kind words?

I pray that the seeds have been planted and they continue to be watered. I pray that God works in the hearts of the people of Malaysia and though they may not hear the name or word “Jesus” they will see His love shining through.

“Jesus has not given us a step-by-step formula for impacting nations for His glory. He has given us people, and He has said ‘Live for them. Love them, serve them, and lead them”.
