Freedom is quite a concept, one I thought I understood until recently. To me freedom was living without chains, to say anything I want to say and do anything I wanted to do. I thought that if I didn’t do what I had wanted and if I was still in chains that I wasn’t free. I didn’t realize how much I had complicated freedom, because freedom is the choice to live with or without chains, the choice to do and say or not say whatever I’d like.
I heard it put this way;
“A vast army stormed a prison, opening every door, but some insisted they were still imprisoned (because they were still in a prison) and stayed.”
So, it is the choice of the prisoner to walk out of the cell, it is the choice of the man struggling with pornography to seek out accountability, the choice of the person to hold thier tongue when gossip arises. Freedom is getting to the point where this is a possibility. It is our choice to walk in freedom, or in bondage.
