I hope this letter finds you doing well.  The past couple of years I have attended Oklahoma State University.  While college has been a wonderful experience for me, I am so excited about the amazing opportunity to serve God and His Kingdom that the Lord has planned for me.

I am leaving in January, 2009 for an eleven month world-wide mission trip with the Adventure in Missions organization based in Gainesville, Georgia called “The World Race”.

The World Race involves five teams racing around the world for a year, eleven countries in eleven months, ministering the hope of Jesus Christ as we go.  Participants range in age from 21-35.  We will be working in orphanages,  responding to natural disasters, and planting local fellowships that reach out in love to the community.  We work through pre-existing relationships already in place with the country. The World Race is crazy for me because its something I’ve wanted to do my whole life.  I’ve never left the U.S. before and I’ve hardly had any missionary experience at all.   As far as mission trips go, I’ve only been on one.  I never witnessed to anybody on the mission field, given I’ve only been on one “mission trip” and to be dead honest, I had no idea that God intended on me being involved with anything like this! I’m a family man, I love adventure movies, the great outdoors, and I think there’s a deep romance that God created for mankind in His creation.

The purpose is to serve God by stepping out of my comfort zone, using Jesus’ model of discipleship and respond to the Great Commission.  I have a deep compassion for the hurting and less fortunate.  God is at work in this world and I want to be a part of it.  I believe God will reveal Himself to me through this experience and I will come away changed forever.

I face a lot of adversity in the spiritual realm. I keep getting sidetracked and I don’t accomplish my goals. I am in no way what someone would label as “Missionary, Cameron Caviness!”… But I do believe in the power of Jesus’ name in prayer. I believe that Jesus will deliver. I believe that Jesus will reveal himself in every situation and person.

Will you prayerfully consider joining me on this incredible journey?

I need to raise $13,800.00 to cover the cost of travel, meals and lodging for the eleven months I will be gone.  Adventure in Missions is a “qualified” tax-exempt organization under IRS code 501(c)(3).  All contributions are tax-deductible.  You can donate by mail to:

(put Cameron Caviness/The World Race on the memo)

You can also donate online at www.cameroncaviness.theworldrace.org.  I will be keeping you updated on the journey through a blog on this site and you can comment on it as well.  Please check out The World Race website for more information. I desperately need friends and family to commit to pray for my team and for all that we will experience, for safety as well as spiritual strength and perseverance during this year-long journey.

I will be contacting you in the next few weeks to answer any questions you may have and to find out how you would like to be a part of this opportunity to tell others of Jesus.

Sincerely yours,

Cameron Caviness
