The Pastor of New Life Church in Varna was nice enough to feed us traditional Bulgarian food and show us around the Sea Gardens. We talked a lot about the region following WWII, the rise and fall of communism, the Balkan Wars, and many other topics.
You can still see a lot of the communism mindset in the country. It’s not something that changes over night. There seems to be a clash of Eastern and Western cultures still prevalent in Varna.
“Bulgaria is a crossroad between the east and the west, between Europe and Asia, so it has been the apple of discord between many countries (and usually Bulgarians have suffered and continue to bear the consequences of it).” – Trif Trifonov
