back. Actually, a little lower but we’ll keep things PG and say my low lower back. See, I had minor back surgery yesterday in Dayton, Ohio that involved a lazer and a camera inserted up through the base of my tailbone. After more than six years of suffering from ruptured disks in my lower back accompanied by a lot of inflamation I feel so free now!
The whole process spoke to my heart and showed me once again the beautiful life-changing power of His mercy. Before the surgery and during the six years of constant pain I was kinda like this:
“Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins. My guilt overwhelms me – it is a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins. I am bent over and racked with pain. A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken. I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart.”
Psalm 38:3-8
The surgery reminded me so much of the burden-lifting that happens when one comes to know the Lord as their personal Lord and Savior. The freeing feeling thaat has lightened my heart makes me excited for all the possibilities that have been reopened to me since my pain is gone. Now I’m the praises from
Psalm 81:
“…I heard an unknown voice that said, ‘Now I will relieve your shoulder of its burden; I will free your handsfrom their heavy tasks. You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you…'” vs. 6-7
Sweet Jesus wants to make His salvation known to all. “Then Jesus said,
‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will findrest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 I thank Him for His reminder of His powerful mercy and the life that is new when burdens are freely given to Him.
