It’s the beginning of January and I’ve been home for just over five months now. It’s hard to believe that a year ago at this time I was still on my first team, and we were saying goodbye to our family in Uganda. Time really does fly by. I still find myself thinking about this past year every single day- the silly moments, the people we met who became family, the adventures, the hard lessons, and the excitement of dreaming. I truly believe that my time on the World Race served as a launching pad, preparing me emotionally and spiritually for whatever God has in store next. It was a year of allowing far-fetched dreams become reality, growing closer to my heavenly Father, and learning to live and think in a way that is completely opposite of American cultural norms.
As you may recall, toward the end of the Race, God kind of smacked me in the face with the passions and interests he’s placed on my heart. Not only did he make it apparent that my heart breaks for people who don’t see or understand their worth in God’s eyes, and that I desire justice for people in all circumstances, he also made it clear that he wants me to actually do something about it. Actually follow these tugs on my heart, not just learn about what’s happening around the world and talk about it over coffee with a few close friends.
However, even at the very end of the Race, I had no idea what I needed to do with these desires. You see, God knows me pretty well (shocker!), and he knows that once I learn about my next step, that’s kind of all I can think about. So, it’s no big surprise that he waited until after I landed back in Kansas to start giving me some of my next steps. While on the Race, I needed to be on the Race.
I attended Project Searchlight for a week in August- a weeklong debrief at Adventures in Missions for Racers just coming off the field. They provide many speakers and sessions to help us figure out what the heck we do now that our whirlwind year is over. They basically help us adult… with Jesus. During this week, I went to a session about a leadership academy I’d heard about several times on the Race, but never put much thought into. I listened to the speaker describe the program, and slowly I started getting butterflies in my stomach. It was all lining up. While I know the passions, interests, and desires God has placed on my heart, I know that I’m nowhere near ready to jump into this field- I don’t have the experience or training or schooling.
Enter G42. The leadership academy is described on its website as “a six month program created for discipling, inspiring, and equipping young men and women to locate their passion – whether in business, the non-profit realm, church planting or the arts – and to develop a strategy to use that passion to bring Kingdom to the earth.” Sound perfect? I thought so too!
So… I’m very excited to announce that in July 2016, I will be attending G42 Leadership Academy!
What are you doing there?
During my six months at G42, I will be taking classes to learn more about practical skills in business, art, and leadership, as well as biblical and spiritual lessons. Along with classes, interns are also encouraged to get involved in the community, either working with an existing ministry or starting our own.
Check out the website here!
Who will be there?
I will be living with other interns in authentic community, much like how I lived on the World Race. These will be the people who encourage, challenge, and support me. We will help one another put into practice the lessons learned in class.
The staff members are also close by- everyone in the G42 community lives within a five minute walk of one another.

Where is it?
G42 is located in the gorgeous town of Mijas, Spain! It is on the southern point of Spain, just across the sea from Morocco.
What about Scotland?
I realize that in my last blog, I told you all about the idea of partnering with my teammate, Becky, in Scotland, to open up a coffee shop to support a safe house. I know it may seem like I’m just hopping from one outlandish dream to another, but bear with me. I am continuing to pray about whether or not God wants me to partner with Becky. I believe that He orchestrated our dreams and final months together for a reason, we just can’t see it yet. Going to G42 will only better equip me to support her if that’s where He leads me. Please continue to pray with me for Becky- her dreams, her desires, for God to provide and lead her. We are all just trying to bring Kingdom in one way or another, it’s all good!
How are you doing this?
I have been living back at home and working, and will continue working and saving money until I leave at the beginning of July. I know the cost of international travel and living expenses, so I am praying for God to provide the means to go.
6 months at G42 costs $6800, which includes housing, food, books and supplies, and tuition, however it does NOT include travel.
To partner with me or to continue partnering with me in ministry, you can:
a) Be a part of my prayer team! I will send updates via Facebook, e-mail, and through my blog (caitlinstrecker.wordpress.com). Ministry truly cannot happen without prayer. This is the BIGGEST way you can partner with me.
Shoutout to my stellar WR prayer warriors- you guys are the bomb, and I am incredibly grateful for you all!
b) Help me with the cost of tuition: (2 options)
