I have a friend who is an awesome musician. I don’t know if he always believes it, but he is truly awesome. Not just like wow that guy is talented, but like wow God really has blessed this dude with some awesome skills that are being used for God’s glory.
So this awesome friend of mine wrote a song that makes me cry everytime I listen to it. I cry everytime, because its one of the biggest struggles I have had as a Christian. To believe God is for me and that He fights for me. Not only to believe God is for me, but that he is my dad and that he loves me. This song touches on all of that It’s called Out To Get You. The whole song is awesome, but the chorus to this song goes like this“He ain’t out to get you He ain’t out to break your back but he ain’t gonna let you Run and hide away like that”.
For most of my life, I have struggled to believe God’s love for me. Not just before I became a Christian but as a Christian. It’s hard for me to believe despite all the lies and despite all I have done that God loves me. Not just in some superficial way like I really love cheese or like I really loved Brett Favre until he became a traitor. No God loves me as a father loves his child. see that’s where I get hung up.
I think a lot of us get hung up on this whole father thing.It makes sense a lot of us have difficult relationships with our earthly dads. A lot of us have dad’s that loved us the best they could but it wasn’t what we needed and some of us have been deeply hurt or even abused by our dads. So it makes sense its hard for us.

For those of us who haven’t had deep emotional connections to our earthly dads its hard to want to draw near to God as a child draws near to their dad. Its much easier for me to think God is out to get me. It’s much easier to believe the lie that God is waiting for me to screw up. Its much easier to push God away so that he won’t hurt me. It’s makes sense that those of us who have been hurt by our dads would be scared to draw near to God. Even people who don’t have a particular hard relationship with their dad easy to just nod your head and agree God is father, but not really experience the love that comes with that.
It is true. God is your father and He does love you. Like really freaking loves you. You are totally his favorite. And I guarantee you the sooner you embrace this the better your life will be. I know its hard. I fought this for most of my life and it didn’t bring me any place good. believe me. It will not be easy by any means. Love isn’t easy, but it is worth it. The peace you feel is totally worth all the pain.
I never thought I wanted God to be my father. I never believed this was a good thing, but it is. It is the most beautiful thing to realize you have a father in heaven who loves you, who sings over you, who fights for you. If you don’t know this I pray that you would see how loved you are right now wherever you are whatever has happened. No matter how much your dad screwed up. No matter how much he hurt you. No matter what he did to you. No matter what he said to you. Your dad is in heaven and Your dad loves you.
