I can’t stop thinking about a
meeting I was in the other day. This woman a few years older than me spoke
after I had shared from my heart. She shared her passion to fight war crimes
and fight for human rights. She was getting her master’s degree and on the
right track to pursue this degree. Sure she had problems but she thought she
could just ignore them. These “issues” she was having with alcohol would not affect
her personal goals. She wanted good things. She had a good heart. Her drinking
was just her way of escaping from her problems so that she could focus her
energy on helping other people.
She talked for awhile. She shared
how she was trying to deal with her drinking, but how she had relapsed. She
shared how she never thought her decision to relapse in May would lead to two
people dead in December. Her story ended by her saying she would be leaving for
Prison in two weeks. A result of her not dealing with her issues (her sin) and
now two innocent people were dead because she made a decision to take the first
drink. She made a decision to drink and drive. As she shared she had 11 months
sober and a lot of perspective on the situation. After the meeting ended I
talked to her. She told me “Good Luck, Don’t Let it Win”.
I’ve been thinking about that for
a while. It pops into my head from time to time “Don’t Let it Win”. This message applies for all of us. God has
created us for a purpose. We are created in His image. We are the Imago Dei. He
gives us desires, but all of us have fallen short. All of us have “issues”. We
have sin that gets in the way. My challenge to you and to myself is ” Don’t Let
it Win”.
Don’t let your issue. Don’t let
your sin win. We have to fight knowing he is fighting for us. It’s a hard
battle, but we are all victorious in Christ.
We may not literally end up in
prison, but a lot of us are already there spiritually. People may not literally end up dead because
of our decisions, but I am sure many people’s hearts have died a little because
of what your sin has done to them.
This woman told me ” Good Luck”,
but we don’t need luck. We have all we need in God. He has given us His power.
He has given us the Holy Spirit which empowers us. So keep fighting. Knowing
the battle has been won. Sin has lost its power over us. Remember the truth. If you’re struggling with
this check out Ephesians 6: 10-17.
