What do you think of when you read that title?

Most would probably say a small, lovely but pesky flower that will often take over a garden. Others might even say a good morning greeting. Very few would probably say morning worship and prayer. Even less would think to say it happens at 4:30 in the morning.

Well, I am now among those even less. Every morning here in Malawi our contact wakes up at four o’clock and makes his way up to church to worship and intercede for his flock and community.  The Fellowship had our first experience this morning.  Too be honest I was not the happiest with idea of waking up so early.

We were not able to make it to the church because of the rain so we all gathered in the living room with Pastor and Mama Ghent and the two daughters of the night guard. TF listened as they worshiped in Chichewa which then led right into prayer. Everyone prayed out loud for a good thirty minutes maybe. It was such a beautiful sound! There was so much passion pouring from Pastor’s heart, and I could hear it in his voice too. As I prayed something began to quiver in me.

I want that passion.

After prayer was closed Pastor sat us down and talked to us about his passion and gift in prayer. I found it terribly exciting that God was using this man to remind us, or at least me, of our desires stated at our first team day.  At our first team time back in Ecuador we each shared what we wanted out of this new season of the Race. Most of us mentioned some sort of growth in the area of prayer. How like God to make our first stop be with a man of passionate prayer!

To be honest, again, I’m still not too excited about the idea of waking up at four in the morning, but if that is what it takes to strengthen my prayer life with God then so be it. Only, He may have to do the waking.
