Hola! Peru has been fantastic so far! I love Huanuco! It is so beautiful, mostly because of the people. We are in a city so this small town Kentucky girl is missing the countryside. Meeting people and making new friends has definitely made up for it though. So what does a week look like? Again that is a little hard, but I’ll try to give you a snapshot.
Monday: This is actually our off day. We have the whole day to rest, relax, and have fun. We usually do our weekly shopping too.
Tuesday: Visitation in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Cleaning day. Church night. Church starts at eight, but we go early to visit. This week we did a mini church service for a lady that has either an anuyrism or hemorrhage in her brain so she’s paralyzed on her right side. We prayed over her and sang and gave her the message from Sunday. They also served us coffee and bread. Church was very fun. It was just the young adults. We sang, played a game (I really didn’t know what was going on), had a message, and then small group fellowship with a snack. That may end up being about the same each week.
Thursday: Prep day. We use this time to come up with lessons, translate, and practice. It was a very free day this week so we also took time to write letters or minister to each other. (One thing we learned in Bolivia is that our ‘family’ can be our ministry sometimes too.) Spanish class. We learned the basic phrases used in prayer this week. Last week it was the difference in estoy and soy and their forms. One is temporary: Yo estoy frio. (I am cold) and the other is permanent: Soy estudiante de Español. (I am a student of Spanish.)
Friday: Another visitation day. We went to the park and invited people to church and prayed for them. We used our notes from Spanish class last night. Rehearsal for those singing with the worship team Sunday (not me this week; I’m working with the kids.)
Saturday: We start with
6am prayer in the church. Last week we took part in a peace march. The day was spent prepping for that. It started at
3pm and we didn’t get back until
11pm ish. Long but good day. This week we will join the teens and preform a skit and the work with the kids.
Sunday: Church. We start at
7am and go until
1pm. This week we split in three groups. One for children’s church at the main church, one for worship, and two for Sunday school at one of the four church branches.
We stay pretty busy. Most mornings feel open because we are at the church most the time, but we are cleaning, prepping, practicing, studying, and/or translating. We have a little down time after lunch and then we jump right into the evenings which are usually jam packed until anywhere from 9-1.
It’s great. I love it. We are exhausted every night. I’ve only had two mini meltdowns from being so tired but I made it through and everything is good!
Please keep praying as we are once again being tried. My uncle passed away this week and someone else got some bad news from home.
Thank you all so much!
Through Christ,
Brooke
