Welcome to French Fry Land
It’s been a wild ride into Malawi. Once we got in, we stopped for a few nights in Lilongwe. From there, our team headed north to Nkhotakota which is right near Lake Malawi. We met the pastors we would be working with this month. These African men are incredible visionaries for the country of Malawi. One of the pastors has started something called Timothy Harvest Ministries, which is a holistic ministry, taking care of both physical and spiritual needs. THM has networked churches through out the country and our job this month is to gather those church leaders together and pour into them and their communities! Essentially, we are leading women’s conferences and pastor conferences this month along with spending time in the villages with the people.
What a win for the last month on the Race!
Right now I’m in Kasungu which is 3 hours west of the lake. We walk from where we are camping to the villages and spend our time there for the majority of the day. We are working with pastors to better develop community building strategies for their churches. I’m really excited for what the Lord is doing here in the churches in Malawi. They are learning so much and hungry for truth and discipleship. It’s often said that the Church in Africa is miles wide but only inches deep. I can verify that statement. It’s true. But the churches here in Malawi are ready to go deep. However, they lack resources. Malawi is the poorest country in Africa. It is costly to use internet time. It is costly to travel to town for discipleship resources. Study bibles alone cost about $100 US dollars. Pastors are trying to discern the Bible with minimal training and understanding about how to go about studying the Bible. As a result, they often steer the church according to misunderstanding and are corrupted by greed and pride, not so differently than some church leaders in America.
I believe that Timothy Harvest Ministry is an incredibly effective ministry model for African churches by Africans that will change the way the church operates sustainably here. It is an incredible honor to be working with this organization in my last month on the Race. Please keep us and this ministry in your prayers as we wrap up our Race and invest in the church leaders and churches and their communities here.
It’s also been a tough month. I’ve come to think of Malawi as the land of french fries. I eat fry-cut and fried potatoes for nearly every meal, with rice and/or ugali and beans. It’s the dream diet- french fries and tomato sauce ( like a ketchup) for every meal.
Pray today;
For my left ear. Right now, I’m fighting a bit of an ear infection that I picked up in Tanzania. Pray that it get’s under control before my 6 flight trek home. It would be a bear to fly with bad ears.
Pray for Timothy Harvest Ministries. For God’s favor to be poured out on that ministry.
Pray for the squad’s endurance, as we run this race, pray we persevere and give our best until the very end.
