I believe God not only has a purpose behind everything He does, but He has this sense of awe that can sometimes catch me off guard. God has blessed me with the ability to appreciate the small things that He does. You know the things that are often overlooked. The things that we as humans can take for granted. God uses those things to remind me who I am and how amazing my Creator truly is.
Most days I find myself walking outdoors. While focusing on my tasks for the day I am easily distracted from my thoughts when I see the beauty of the sky, or a cloud shaped in an odd figure. I then look at the flowers, the grass, the squirrels in the trees, and the bugs crawling on the ground. All of a sudden I’m just smiling and laughing aloud. Oh God’s creations!
Awe is defined as ” a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder.”
Here’s the problem. A fairly large number of us go day to day without capturing the glory of God. What we do see however is
a busy schedule,
a mean neighbor,
our vacation around the corner,
the problems at church,
the new movie we have to see,
the bills to be paid,
a man or woman we are arguing with yet again,
the weight we need to loose,
the car that needs to be fixed,
the person we long to be,
the things we wish we had,
broken promises and lost dreams…
An article I read a few weeks ago stated that “For sinners, the road between awe and complaining is very short. You and I were created to live our lives in the shadow of awe. Every word we speak, every action we take, every decision we make, and every desire we entertain was meant to be colored by awe. We were meant to live with eyes gazing upward and outward. We were meant to live with hearts that are searching, and hungry and being satisfied. Bad things happen when human beings lose their sense of awe.”
When sin takes away our awe, that sense of divine wonder that is meant to shape every person’s life, we look for ways to fill the void. Think about it. If you are not getting your wonderment vertically, that it, from the Creator, then you will look for it somewhere in the creation. We are searching for “good.” Something “unadulterated, imperishable, unending, and unfailing; because we are wired that way. That good we can only find in one place; God.
Here’s the deal. I know I am a sinner and I have fallen short from the grace of God. Not every day do I consume myself with the wonders of God. I too find myself distracted by the previous list of things, but here is my challenge to myself and to you.
For the next 30 days find something that puts you in Awe of God. I will make another blog post called “Awestruck Wonder” and I will add each of the wonders of God. Feel free to comment and add yours as well! This will be funny journey to do together! #LetsDoLife
Below is a video I challenge you to watch! Its my day 1 of “Awestruck Wonder.” It’s 12 minutes long so if you don’t desire to watch the whole thing you can skip a forward and get the idea behind it. If you haven’t got your daily dose of Awe today after watching this video I’m sure you will be praising God for being AWESOME.
