So the past week or so we have been going into the “bush” to visit new churches that have been planted in various rural villages. Yesterday was a doozie! It started with the drive there…I was in the back seat on the way there with Jenny and B. Cox, we went flying as we hit several pot holes, and dodged cows in the road. The pastor driving would say “You will dance when we hitting the bumps” only he pronounced “dancing” like “dan-ching”…it’s moments like these I think, “Yep! I’m in Africa.”
We finally arrived at the church and had the opportunity to worship and fellowship with the people there. I really enjoy dancing and clapping and singing with them, although there is a language barrier we are worshipping the same Great God! One of our translators JB was leading worship and the drums were pumping and out of no where JB is flailing his legs in the air doing a dance that looked impossible!…it’s moments like these I think, “Yep! I’m in Africa.”
Jenny and Dan shared messages, it was really good, I love learning and I especially love learning from my teammates J We then went out to eat some lunch, the people in these villages are so hospitable and giving, I am humbled every time. After our meal we were sitting and talking with some of the leaders in the church when a chicken jumped up onto the little table!! Justin tried to kick it away instead it went flying into the air and JB caught it mid-flight!! He didn’t even look at it, it was a ninja move it I ever saw one…it’s moments like these I think, “Yep! I’m in Africa.”
The sun was starting to go down to we piled into the vehicle and headed out on the pot holed road for home. It had rained. We got about half way and we saw muddy roads ahead and we knew it was about to get good, Pastor John stopped as if he was preparing himself, we held on and he went for it. We hydroplaned and ended up in a ditch. In the middle of Northern Uganda…it’s moments like these I think, “Yep! I’m in Africa.”
We piled out of the car and man nice African men gathered around to help, the guys helped push the car. we stood off to the side ready to escape into the “bush”; watching the goats walk through the mud along with men carrying their bicycles through the gooey terrain. After several tried the car was free! Muddy feet and all we stood in a circle in the middle of the muddy road somewhere in the bush of Uganda and prayed with the men who helped us. We got back in the car and “dan-ched” all the way home. It’s moments like these I think, “YEP! I’m in Africa.”
