In just 1 week I will be back in the USA, after not being there for more than 15 hours(during a layover) in the last 11 months.
In 1 week…
I’ll get to hug my parents.
I’ll have to say goodbye to 40 people that I’ve grown to love over this past year.
I will no longer be living out of a backpack.
I’ll get to take a hot shower.
I’ll get to sleep in my own bed. (Over the past 11 months I’ve slept in over 40 beds)
I’ll get to drive my car again.
I won’t have to worry about malaria, or parasites or other crazy bugs around the world.
I’ll be able to recognize the meat that I eat.
I won’t have to keep wearing the same clothes over and over again.
I won’t have to search high and low for TP.
I’ll get to use a washer/dryer and a dishwasher.
I’ll get to use a real fluffy towel, instead of the quick-dry one I’ve been using.
I’ll get to eat food that I’ve missed: salads, fruit, bacon, chocolate soy ice-cream!
I won’t have to have a buddy with me to walk down the street.
It’s pretty bittersweet thinking about getting to see my family and friends again, and at the same time thinking about saying goodbye to the people that have been my family for this past year. Where has the time gone? Some days it seems like I’ve been gone for sooo long, and other days it’s like I just left. Some days it feels like I’ve dreamed up all the countries I’ve been to and the people I’ve met. This year has been crazy, awesome, tiring, and amazing all at the same time.
I’m going to miss seeing these wonderful people every day. I’m going to miss prayer and worship every morning, laughing, dancing, cooking, watching movies, and just hanging out with them.
But I’m also so excited for what God has planned next for me! 🙂
