Holy Week is beautiful and crazy in Antigua, Guatemala. It’s full of tourists every where you turn, street vendors, carpets decorating the streets and processions.

During the week leading up to Easter the streets are decorated with colorful saw dust or sand. Then they have processions everyday throughout the city. The people from the Catholic churches pay the church to be able to carry the huge platforms with Jesus or Mary or someone else riding atop of it. The platforms weigh 2000-3000lbs each. They believe that by carrying the platforms that their sins will be forgiven.

The carpets on the streets are beautiful and it’s fun to watch the processions but it’s also really sad that all these people believe that they need to work for their forgiveness.

~Ephesians 2:8-9~ “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-  not by works, so that no one can boast”
Salvation is a free gift! God loves each and every one of us so much that He sent His Son to die for all of our sins that we’ve ever done or will do. He wants us to spend eternity with Him in Heaven one day and we don’t get there by being good or doing good things. It’s through our belief and faith in God alone.
