Moment number one:
At dinner on our first night there was a woman who came to the house and was talking to us and then she pointed at me and then grabbed her skin and pointed at me again and said “you black” and I politely agreed with what she said.
Moment two:
On our first full day in the village (I feel like the word village is misleading it was more of a small town. When I hear village I think huts, no running water, and no electricity and that was not the case.) we had the day off so we decided to explore the town. There was a coffee shop and the guy working there was talking to us and at one point he also pointed out that I was black and again I politely agreed with what he said.
Moment three:
It was our last day of work on the house and the house mom goes in the house and comes back with a picture to show me. This picture has two black guys. She then pointed at them and said “African” then she points to me and tells me they are like me. This happens several times and I politely agree.
At first I was like really people but then I realized the amount of black people who come through a small village in Thailand are even less than in Chiang Mai so I was a sight, something special. I decided to laugh about the situation. I kind of like that they point out the differences, it allows you to see what is special and unique about yourself. So Thailand I’m black and I’m proud:)
