I don’t know if you’ve heard of a thing called sex-trafficking.

It is just one of the major social injustices that is happening in the world.

In our time.

On  our watch.

It is not okay to stand by and “not see” the women and children that are taken from their families, countries, lifestyles to serve as slaves to whomever buys them. These women who are just like you and I are forced into situations of abuse, drug addiction, captivity.

This is a major issue in the Costa Del Sol region where I currently live. Women from Nigeria, Romania, and Brazil just to name a few are trafficked into this country by madam’s and pimps to work in a district called Guadalahorce which men refer to as “scum of the earth prostitutes”. These women are my age. Promised jobs, marriages,  education, a better life…

It was very different from my time in Southeast Asia. It was not camouflaged into massage parlors, restaurants, or hotels. The women were literally standing on corners in the street. It was a very dark dingy area mostly warehouses and dim street lights.  My heart sunk when I asked questions like what do you want to do? The answers ranged from anything but this to tailoring clothing, singing, acting things most girls dream about. These women have hearts, feelings, minds and they just have to shut them off so that they can make a few euros a night on the side of the road.

This is real. Women and children are suffering and I cannot handle the fact that things are not done to stop this. I’m standing up and asking for you to get involved. Sex-trafficking is happening in your city in the United States.  I want my grandchildren to have to ask what Sex-trafficking is because it no longer exists. Be a part of history and stand up. A change is happening.

Today in Michigan and here in Spain there is a group of Men (and women) standing up to say that it is not okay and this injustice will become a thing of the past. http://www.demandchangeproject.org/home.html  Is it worth another person’s life to have a single want met. This could be your daughter, friend, OR mother.

This movement is the first of it’s kind Men standing up to say women you are more valuable than that lifestyle, we will do what we can to get you out, give you training in skills, and provide jobs that will not suck the life out of you. Stand up women and be proud that we are not the only ones fighting for our sisters any longer.  Men Against The Trafficking Of Others. What a powerful thing.
