Last May I was in Cambodia.

Before going there I had no idea what “the killing fields” were. I learned that the Khmer Rouge was a regime aimed to kill the minorities and educated people in the country. They killed over 2 million( that was just the people executed and “buried” in the killing fields) people during the genocide.  Pol Pot “the hitler of Cambodia” wanted to seek out and destroy any possibility of creativity. They did not want anyone living a life of respectability. The people they did let live were sentenced to work in factories or do more degrading work.

whew.

While I was in country my team and I went to the killing fields memorial.  It made me wonder why Jesus hung and died on a cross, since the world went crazy anyway. I walked through the exhibits, the building where people were tortured. The tower of bones and the teeth in the ground….

God said: this is what happens when people walk away from me. I have brought you to this place to show you something important. This is what happens when my compassion and love leave a place.  It is when people do not allow God to show up through them, that the world  collapses in on itself.

I don’t really know how else to explain the hurts in the world.

I don’t know that every hurt can be attributed to Love leaving a place but in my heart it makes sense. When people are loved they feel free to be who they are.

Creativity and life flows in  the boundary of love.

feedback anyone?
