Tanzania is officially in the running for my favorite month
on the race so far. We’re in a town called Iringa- I couldn’t tell you where
that is on a map. It’s up in the mountains, and it brings me so much joy to
walk out of our little house and see so much variety and beauty. Our contact,
Pastor Jacob ChaCha, is incredible. He oozes gentleness, strength, and wisdom
and is almost always giggling and/or expressing his love for one of us. Also, he
reminds me of an ex NBA player. I love him. The ChaCha family is amazing as
well… Mama ChaCha is beautifully dignified and also hilarious. She calls me her
baby. They have three children, but I’ve mostly spent time with just their
daughter Deborah. We are also blessed with amazing translators- Peter Brian,
Rachel, Israel, and some of the children in the church.
Our ministry includes a wide array of stuff. We preach in
the church we’re partnered with, do home visits, visit orphanages, visit
universities, and we’re preparing to head into a village for three days. I feel
more alive and happy here than I have in a long time. There are so many
opportunities to build relationships and connect with people here; I absolutely
love it. God is teaching me a lot about living fully present in each day. I’m
realizing that I look to the future a lot with the expectation that I will be
more satisfied with the next thing- the next event, the next country, the next
season of life. You miss out on so much when you’re consumed by those thoughts.
So I’m trying to wake up each morning with eager anticipation of what God has
for this day. It’s good. It’s really good.
Tanzania… many stories to come! Please keep praying for our
ministry and for health. Two of my teammates just got diagnosed with malaria and several of my squad mates have it as well. Please pray that we would all be healthy and full strength so we can
continue the work God has set before us.
I’m so grateful for each and every one of you!
Love,
Brittany/Beebs/BB (I recently found out that BiBi is Swahili
for grandmother… I get a good laugh when I tell the women here that this is my
name at home)
ps. The internet isn’t strong enough to upload pics… hopefully i’ll be able to soon!
