This month the Lord is spoiling us! After two cold mountainous months, Nicaragua is going to be a little different. This is the panoramic view from my hammock as I write this blog…
This month our team is partnering with CICRIN orphanage. CICRIN is incredible as they are pretty much a self sustaining community that is trying to provide a better future for the kids here on Ometepe. There is only one true orphan here, but all the other children were sent here because their parents simply couldn't provide them a roof or food. At CICRIN they have a school, boys house, girls house, guest dorms, a basketball court/soccer arena, vegetable garden, many fruit trees, a green house, chicken coupe, and several goats. And all this can be found on Isla de Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua.
The closer we got, the more amazed we became.
We took a ferry across the lake and were able to watch the sunset over the water. We all piled in two vans 12 passenger vans that were waiting for us. For the first time in the past two months, I had my own seat and extra room to spare!! We had been told it was a 20 minute drive so we all took in our last glimpse of the lake until we could see it again and then we were on our way.
A 20 minute drive was of course an hour long endeavor with a stop at an ATM and getting stopped by other white folks vacationing, wondering what we were doing. We took a dirt road turn off and after a few minutes the vans came to a halt and were then swarmed by children welcoming us! We were shown our room which had fans, lights, bunk beds, pillows, sheets and even bath towels! We were all oww-ing and aww-ing in amazement!
We then explored the grounds before dinner finding all the amenities including hammocks when we heard it.
Waves crashing against the shore.
We had driven an hour across the island, only to end up back on the water with a panoramic view of the lake!
So get ready for an incredible month because we live
at an orphanage,
overlooking the water,
on an island,
with volcanoes,
on a lake,
in Nicaragua!
