Evangelism

A word that personally carries many mixed emotions. It’s intimidating. Slightly scary. Yet, ever so intriguing. I’m uncomfortable reaching out to unfamiliar people. I can do it, but it’s not natural or easy. It’s not my element. I’m saying “yes,” but I need you God. Help

This month is all squad month here in Ghana, Africa. This means all 57 of us are living in community and doing ministry together. Our ministry is evangelizing. I envisioned this to look like going door to door talking about Jesus, and inviting people to church. That vision was accurate, but I was missing a part of the grand picture. The part where we listen for the Holy Spirit’s promptings, direction, and guidance to see Him do crazy things and lead us to unfathomable places. The part where it is anything but intimidating or monotonous, but rather alive and exciting! The part where He makes you uncomfortable and teaches you and grows you because He loves you so much!

This past week we were headed out for a normal day of evangelizing. I remember specifically praying as a team that morning for the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us. We headed out walking from shop to shop chatting with many along the way, when something caught my teammate’s eye. She saw a sign for a radio station, and quickly paved the way. We were able to easily glide past the initial registration with no problem, conversing along the way. It was not long before we had talked to practically everyone in the station about Jesus! We asked if we could tour the actual recording area and they said “yes!” Hot dog! Let’s do this! Right before we entered the station, they flipped the “ON AIR” light and before we knew it, we were on the radio. We introduced ourselves and were able to give a shout out to our partnering church. Wasting no time, an impromptu song was requested. Having nothing prepared -we belted out the classic, “Amazing Grace.” I wouldn’t say it was standing ovation worthy, but if it turned one person to Jesus, man was it worth it! As if that wasn’t cool enough, there’s more! They have invited us to come back in two weeks to sing worship songs for a full hour, with no air cost! Praise Jesus. We left the radio station in total awe of the events that had just transpired, and with even more excitement to see where the Holy Spirit would lead next!

God was just knocking our socks off.

Later that day at children’s ministry, I had the privilege of bonding with 2 children. One was named Elizabeth, and the other, Gordon. Everywhere I went- they followed. The Lord prompted me to share Jesus with them. I have never felt so happy to be able to sit and share with them what Jesus did at the cross, and how much He loves them! They had never heard of Jesus, but now they have! Seeds were planted and that just gets me so excited! The gospel never gets old no matter how many times you tell it.

God has showed me this month that evangelism is exhilarating and life changing! It’s not something to be apprehensive about. Also, it’s no problem being a more reserved introvert. HE CAN USE ANYONE. You just have to be willing to say “yes.”

Please keep Ghana in your prayers, and our worship hour airing the 14th! Prayers that many more would accept Jesus as their Savior!
