Today my mama and I were browsing the Christian section of Barnes and Noble.
Making myself at home, I plopped myself down, cross-legged, and began to scan the titles.
One jumped out at me immediately—truereligion: taking pieces of heaven to places of hell on earth.
The author explains that he is bothered.
Bothered with the fact that so many of us live comfortable, safe lives while there are so many who do not.
Last night, I was scrolling through my instagram and came across a post that said, "the things you take for granted, someone else is praying for."
The day before I was reading "Kisses From Katie"-the story of the teenage girl who moved to Uganda and ended up adopting 14 children.
She explains her reponse to when people ask her if she is scared about where/how she lives.
"I am much more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self-serving society and failing to follow Jesus than I am of any illness or tragedy," (XIX).
Three different ways, same message.
I hear you God! My earmuffs are off. You've spoken loud. I hear You.
This blessed and wonderful life I live, it is fabulous. My parents are supportive and loving and have provided me with everything a child could ever need or want. My family is awesome, tight and full of love and laughter. My friends are the best, caring, compassionate, hilarious, and adventure seekers. My church is GREAT, my job is GREAT…but you know what is greater? Jesus.
My Lord. My Savior. My King. My Provider. My Love.
Since He is greater-greater than me, my job, my cute little Scion xB, my beautiful home-it is time.
Time to get busy.
Time to get radical.
Time to love.
It is not time to be comfortable.
It is not time to be safe.
It is not time to be timid.
God has spoken, God has given me a mission, God has given me a purpose.
Live differently.
Live simply.
Live for Him.
Live for others.
Live for LOVE.
Can I change the entire world?
No.
Can I channel God's love to one person and change their world?
Yes.
And it is time to share God's love with the world.
For 8 months here in Detroit.
And then for 11 months all over the world.
And then everywhere I go for the rest of my life.
Starting, NOW.
