Yesterday was officially our first day of ministry. Several of us spent the morning preparing a huge field for the grass that we will be planting soon. We spent most of the morning picking up rocks and digging out some huge rocks that did NOT want to come out. We’re also taking shifts at the children’s home so that there is someone from our squad on duty at all times…These women that work here are incredible. They invest SO much time, love, and energy into caring for these orphans. Last night we helped Helen, who works the 2-10 shift every afternoon and evening, she’s 24 and has committed her life to these children. She cares for 5 toddlers and 2 infants by herself every single night. Last night my squadmate Jeannie and I did an 8 hour shift with the infants and toddlers. We’re simply there to do whatever is needed….Feeding babies, changing diapers, taking them for walks, putting them back to sleep, etc….Some of you are probably laughing right now….I thought I had signed myself up for the older kids. I am definitely not a baby or toddler person….Clearly, God had something else in mind…As I was pacing the nursery with a little baby in my arms late last night I just knew….These little babies and toddlers are what God has placed on my heart for this month.
