Who is Adventures in Missions?
www.adventures.org

Adventures in Missions (AIM) is an interdenominational mission organization that is based in Gainesville, GA.  AIM has sent 80,000 people all over the world to be the hands and feet through Jesus by praying for the sick, bringing hope to the hopeless, caring for orphans, etc.  AIM has sent out families, junior high students, high school students, college students, and adults to ministries all over the world.

What is the World Race?
www.theworldrace.org

Adventures in Missions has developed the World Race, which is an 11 month program for people in their 20’s and 30’s.  While on the race, participants travel the world, ministering in a different country each month.  AIM selects committed Christ followers to go and be the hands and feet of Jesus, to pray with the dying, love the orphaned children, bring hope to women trapped in prostitution, and bring the light of Christ to some of the darkest places on Earth.

Coming Soon….

Friday, April 9, 2010

Come on out to the Panera in the Beverly neighborhood (near 95th and Western) on Friday, April 9th.  This will be an informal gathering for anyone who would like to hear more about the World Race!  We will be there from 7:00pm-9:00pm.  Feel free to stop by for a few minutes or the whole time!  This will be an informal time to simply hear about the World Race, ask questions, see how you can get involved, etc.  You are welcome to come at anytime and leave whenever you need to! Bagels and coffee will be provided.  Invitations went out to people that live nearby, but all are welcome! Send me an email or give me a call if you think you’ll be able to come!

Service Day

A friend and I are organizing a service day here in the Chicago area.  Watch for details and plan to come out and join us!

Garage Sale

I will be having a garage sale at my parents’ house in Evergreen Park, IL, sometime in June.  I will be accepting donations of clothes, kitchenware, small furniture, etc.  All proceeds from this garage sale will go directly towards my support for the World Race, as well as miscellaneous costs such as the required International Health Insurance, flight to starting point, etc.

Training Camp

“What are they doing to prepare you?” is a very common question I get when talking about the World Race.  Every team has a Training Camp approximately one month prior to launch.  The September 2010 team has our training camp scheduled for the last week of July.  Typically training camp is held at AIM headquarters in Gainesville, GA.  However, there has been talk of having it at AIM’s mission base in Matamoros, Mexico, which is right across the border from Texas.  AIM has mission bases all over the world.  You can find them here:  http://www.adventures.org/a/centers/  Hopefully we’ll be finding out where it will be soon!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

So many of you have expressed interest in helping in ways besides financial donations!  Those assisting with planning fundraisers, inviting me to speak at churches or youth groups, donating supplies, and so many other ways!  This is truly a group effort and I couldn’t do it without you all!  I have absolutely loved the opportunity to reconnect with so many different people over these past few months.  I posted a blog a few weeks ago about all the people I have known throughout my life that have joined me in this mission.  Check it out at http://bridgetmcnamara.theworldrace.org

How can I be praying?

How can I be praying for you?  My team has assigned ourselves a specific night of the week to be in prayer for the ministries we’ll be participating in, fundraising, physical health, preparations, team unity, and our supporters!  Please let me know how I can be specifically be praying for you!

1.  Please be praying for the specific countries we’ll be traveling to and the specific ministries we’ll be involved in.  For example, during the month of December the women on my team will be reaching out the women trapped in prostitution on the streets on Thailand.  I have written a blog on this ministry, which you can check out at http://bridgetmcnamara.theworldrace.org
2.  Please be praying for spiritual, emotional, and physical preparation for the year.  My team is now up to about 45 people from all over the United States and Canada.  Often I here World Racers say “I got so caught up in getting ready to go, that I forgot that I was going”.  Now that there are less than  5 months until we leave, my teammates and I are feeling the truth of that statement.

How is support coming along?

Currently in account:  $3,212.50
In monthly pledges:  $2,375.00
Total:  $5,587.50
Still Needed:  $8,712.50
My personal goal is to have $1,787 in new donations or pledges each month through August. This would have me fully-funded before I leave for India  in September.  We have already met the January, February, and March goals!!!  Adventures in Missions has specific guidelines we must also follow in order to launch in September.  There is a requirement of $7,000 IN my account by August 1st, 2010.  The next requirement is to have $8,500 IN my account approximately one week before departure.  God has called me to this ministry and I am very excited to see all the ways that He is providing since I committed to the September team last fall!  Would you consider committing to a monthly gift to support this mission?

How can I donate?
(There have been recent updates on deductions since my last newsletter.)

1.  You can send a check to Adventures in Missions at P.O. Box 534470 Atlanta, GA 30353-4470.  You will need to include my support card, or write “Appealed to Bridget McNamara” in the memo line.  This is VERY important.  If not, your donation will go to the general fund for the World Race.  If you need a new support card, please let me know and I will put it in the mail immediately!
2.  You can donate with debit or credit card through my blog:  http://bridgetmcnamara.theworldrace.org.  You will see a Support Me! Link on the left hand side.  You will then be able to follow the directions to make your donation.  On the first page you will select “support a racer” and then type in my name.  Please note that 5% of your donation will be deducted from my support account when using a credit or debit card to pay for fees from the credit card company.
3.  You can follow the steps of #2, but you will choose “bank draft option”.  There will be a 3% deduction for this option.
4.  Remember that ALL donations are tax-deductible!

Testimonies of Past World Racers

God has a massive heart to love, forgive, and bring freedom, and he has given me a glimpse of it.  I now hurt when someone else hurts.  I have passion for people in ways I can’t describe these days.  I love deeper than ever even though my flesh sometimes wants to reject, but God’s love has completely overtaken me.
Robby Riggs (January 2008)

I can sum up my World Race experience in one word:  Kingdom.  Because in that word is the depth of true community.  God’s heart for the orphaned, widowed, and sex-trafficked, a hope filled way to engage the world and the fullness of God which is the love of Jesus.  And I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is nothing else I want to give my life to.
Nate Evans (January 2008)

Where are you going?

India, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Kenya, Uganda, Romania, Ukraine, and one other country on each continent.  Please check out this link for more details:  http://updates.theworldrace.org/?filename=september-2010-world-race-route

A sneak peek….The northern regions of Romania are home to the Gypsy people.  Though strangers in their homeland and forgotten by society, the Gypsies are a strong and vibrant people who embrace the light of Christ in an inspirational way.  Here you’ll teach English, lead sports camps, live life with the Gypsies, and more.
