A letter written to my younger self at 22
Dear Brian,
You are about to graduate college after relentlessly pursuing your business degree. Don’t worry about success. You don’t need to prove yourself either. Stay true to what you believe and always keep God the center of your life. Your life isn’t going to always make sense but trust in God He has a bigger plan for you and He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
Through various life experiences over these next four years you will fall in love, have your heart broken, be set free from addiction, find true identity in Christ, find and experience true lasting joy, have your heart set on fire for God, and come to the realization less truly is more in life. Don’t let the opinions of other’s drown out God’s voice. Follow where He leads you.
You were created in His image (Genesis 1:27) for good works (Ephesians 2:10). He bought you at a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). Never loose hold of that. Never. Not everyone is going to like you. Be OK with that. Remember your light shines in the darkness and others will notice the lifestyle you choose to live for Christ. Don’t take offense if others are not cool with your lifestyle because your light reveals darkness in the lives of unbelievers (John 3:20).
You will be pushed beyond what you thought was possible. You will experience mountain highs and valley lows but God is with you the whole time. When you can’t feel His presence, just remember He is in fact right beside you. Above all, keep your eyes on Him. He is your strength and strong tower, your refuge.
Keep loving Him and those around you. Remember to always be in the moment and appreciate what’s been given to you from above. Keep seeing the good in people and remember to give thanks with a grateful heart.
Your 26 year-old self,
Brian
