waffle iron? you're probably thinking what I would be if I were reading this- what?

I have a story to share with you, in this occasion of taking off for this crazy journey we're beginning…

Back when I was in high school, I was one of a couple a mission trips to (guess) yes, Ecuador. My missions pastor at my church, Porter Speakman, always said that God would speak to us in some way during the trip and asked us pick up a rock along the way at some point as a reminder of what He spoke to us. Like in the Old Testament, how the Israelites would make a stack of stones in rememberance of what God had done in their lives or when He has spoken.

So one day, we had stopped by a river, where there were of course many rocks of all shapes and sizes, of all varieties. And as I was scanning the bank, a piece of broken, chipped tile caught my eye. Upon  picking it up, I noticed that there was a criss-cross (kind of checkered, box-like) pattern on one side of it, and it was made from hardened clay or a similar material.

Anyways, one of my good friends was standing not far from there and saw the tile and said in a half-joking way, 'Hey! that looks like a waffle!' And it did, I laughed, but then right in that moment, the Lord spoke to me so clearly and so abruptly, I felt my jaw almost drop. He said, knowing my creative and random mind, that he has created me to be like a WAFFLE IRON.

what? a WAFFLE IRON?
I laughed again.
then He explained it.

He said, "I have made you to be like a waffle maker. I am going to bring people into your life that you will encounter and they will be CHANGED, and molded into who I've made them to be, like when batter is poured into a waffle maker, they are never the same. But this is the KEY- waffle irons don't work or heat without electricity. You MUST always be plugged into me, I'm the one who causes the changes and the reshaping to occur. Or else all that they will be is the same batter they started out with."

Can you say WHOA? that's what I said.
And then I was overwhelmed and amazed and thankful, as I still am to this day.
That He would pull me up out of the dark hole I was was in, much more USE ME to change other people.

Needless to say, I know He has called me out to something higher, something so much bigger than myself. As He has called each of us. We are ALL waffle irons.

As I embark on this journey in 2013, I intend to walk out in this calling. I don't know what that will look like in its entirety (obviously), and I am glad. All of us, we are just vessels of His glory, testimonies of His faithfulness, and messengers of His jealous love to every person on this earth. And it's BEAUTIFUL. And exciting. And mind blowing!

So pray for all of us, humble kitchen appliances, haha!
We are so grateful for all of your love and support. GOD IS SO AMAZINGLY GOOD.
