For those of you who haven't heard yet, I have been accepted to go on the World Race! Starting January of 2014, I will be gone for 11 months and will be working as a missionary in Central and South America.
I am absolutely overwhelmed with excitement at this opportunity that the Lord has placed in front of me, and I wanted to share some details of my trip with all of you as my dearly beloved friends and family! ๐
What: The World Race is a missionary journey to 11 countries in 11 months to serve "the least of these" while amongst real and raw community. It facilitates discipleship through the process of discovering the abundant life He promised. It births partnerships with ministries around the world. It requires Luke 10-like faith. It calls you out of your comfort zone and gives you exposure to what God is doing in the world before you commit to the American dream. It is a reminder that it's not about you, it's about the Kingdom.
When: January 2014 through November 2014
Where: Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic,Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
Why: As many of you know, my three greatest passions in life are 1) Jesus 2) People and 3) Spanish. After spending a semester studying abroad in Ecuador, I fell in love with the people and the culture, and I felt the Lord calling me to ministry overseas. When I heard about the World Race Spanish Route, I was overcome by the presence of the Lord and He made it clear to me that this was where He wanted me to be… the next day I applied, and a week later I was accepted! I am so excited to a part of the very first ALL SPANISH route, and I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you!!
How: The cost of this 11 month missions trip is $13,500.. which doesn't include airfare to training camp in October or to the launch site in January. Nor does it include my gear (backpack, tent, and sleeping pad). One of the scariest parts about going on this trip is raising the funds, but I am confident that the because the Lord has called me to the World Race, He will be faithful in providing me with what I need to go! ๐
Over the next 5 months, I will be working at Dairy Queen and offering babysitting and yard work services in order to save up some of the money. I will also be hosting a few fundraisers, and sending out support letters. I will continually be updating this blog, as well as my Facebook page.
So what do I need from you guys as my supporters? Well I would love just that… your support! Whether that be through encouraging words, financial contributions, prayers, or wise words of advice, every ounce of support is appreciated and I am just so blessed to be able to share my experiences with you!
