In November, I was accepted to The World Race, an eleven month, eleven country mission trip for young adults who desire more to their lives than the routine of working 9-5 to achieve the American Dream.  From September 2011 to July 2012, I will be traveling the world with a group of five or six other people, joining missionaries already in place and working with them to fill the needs of their area.  We could be fixing up buildings, leading worship, ministering to people on the street, teaching English or leading youth groups.  Along the way, I’ll discover what living in Christian community really means and gain a better understanding of myself and my role in God’s kingdom here on earth.

I am so excited for this trip for multiple reasons.  The first is that I will get to travel the world with other Christian young adults and do real, hands-on ministry in the far corners of the earth.  I’ve never dedicated more than a week at a time to doing volunteer work in the name of Jesus.  I want to see and be a part of what God is doing in other parts of the world.  Giving almost a year of my life back to God will be a great way for me to thank Him for all He has blessed me with for the past twenty-five years.

I’m also excited to have the opportunity to really consider my place in this world and how God wants to use me in the future.  I learned from my time in Japan that living abroad is one of the best ways to improve yourself and learn more about your specific strengths and weaknesses.  During my year and a half in Japan, I lived in one country and it became my home.  The experience was challenging, but not nearly as challenging as traveling to a different country each month for eleven months.  I am really looking forward to stretching myself out of my comfort zone on totally different levels during the World Race.

The total cost of my eleven months on the World Race will be $14,300.  Fortunately, I am confident that I will not be alone in trying to raise that money.  God has blessed me with many amazing people in my life and I pray that you will join with me as I prepare financially, mentally and spiritually for my adventure on the World Race.  I realize that I am asking you to consider contributing money to my trip during the holiday season, one of the most stressful times of the year on your budget.  All I ask is that you prayerfully consider the opportunity of joining alongside me in this journey, through prayer and financial support, however you can.  You can choose to donate one time or make a monthly commitment.  Those of you looking for a cause to tithe to on a regular basis, pick me!   Whatever you choose to do, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

I am so thankful to you for your prayers, support and love.
