My mission has officially begun. I've just completed training for Next Step Ministries and I'm in Jamaica now for the rest of the summer. I'm helping to lead worship for the kids who come through every week as well as mentoring them and helping to build a rehab house for drug and alcohol abusers. Interesting fact: This will only be the second rehab house in all of Jamaica, and the only one that's based in Christianity.
I'm incredibly excited for what God is going to do not only in my life this summer but also those in the community and the kids coming through every week. We're ready to change some lives for God's kingdom!
We've only been in Jamaica for two days and it already feels like home. Yes, it's hotter than the surface of the sun, but it's also one of the most beautiful countries I've ever seen filled with some of the most beautiful people. As we've been walking around and meeting members of the community I've realized something. Sometimes in our little pocket of America we forget about the rest of the world. We forget that God loves each and every person here just as much as he loves us. We forget that all these people have hopes and dreams just like we do. As I walk around I've started to see Christ in everyone. Every single person we encounter needs our love and every single person deserves it. And that is a beautiful thing.
My team I'll be with this summer is beyond amazing. God hand-picked each and every one of us to be here at this exact time with this exact group. These wonderful people are already my family and I can't wait to get to know them even better.
Every single one of these people are so filled with a fire for sharing God's love and it's a privilege to know them and serve with them. We're going to have the greatest adventures.
And because I love food I have to say that real Jamaican jerk chicken and pork is just about the most succulent and delicious meat you'll ever have. We also got to try a breaded doughy desert called Festivus. And if you ever get the chance to try a fruit called Sour Sop, please do. When you first bite into it you'll feel like you died and gone to heaven.
On the day we left for Jamaica we had to be up at 3:30 am, which would've been okay had we not been up already for like 20 hours. The previous two nights we had either slept on a church pew or the rock hard floor of a gymnasium, which translates to no sleep. But even with the incredible lack of sleep we're still always in good spirits knowing that something like this will never happen again. And that's totes whip.
I'm so excited for every new day, because every day is a new opportunity to love others and show them God's love. It's such a great feeling to be completely relying on God, far away from all distractions of home. Bring on the hardships. Bring on the good times, Bring on the God moments. It's Jamaica mon.
