Month 1 in review

Month 1 in Guatemala is OVER!! Can you believe it!? I can’t. So here are some highlights of what happened and what ministries we worked with.

Casa Maria- Casa Maria is like a nursing home, but worse. It’s a place of sadness in my opinion. Families, for the most part, drop off their parents, relatives or friends there if they can no longer support them financially. Some families do go and visit every so often, but not many. This place has so much sadness in it you can feel it. All these people do all day, everyday is eat, sit and sleep. I tried to look at it in a positive light, as, they get 3 (not very good) meals a day, cloths on their back, a roof over their head and a bed to sleep in, which is more than most of the world gets. But still, it is a very depressing and a sad life to live. Our job was to bring LIFE and LIGHT to them and show that they are LOVED and should be happy. It was hard at times, but we tried our best. We played games, colored with them, played with balloons, and just talked to them. I had no idea what they were saying, but I hope they liked having an ear to talk to. Overall, it was a hard ministry, but I pray that they saw LIFE in us and we somehow made them happy.

Casa Jackson- Casa Jackson is a rehabilitation center for mal-nourished babies. Parents sign a contract to have their child stay there until they are properly fed and are healthy enough to go back to their homes. They also make the parents bring the kids back for check ups in their clinic and give them a plan to properly take care of their child once they are sent home. I personally LOVE kids so I liked going and holding the babies and feeding them, but it wasn’t a place where we could share the Gospel. We LOVED on the babies and prayed over them.

Hermano Pedro Hospital- This was my personal FAVORITE ministry that we did this month. This is a normal hospital, but we volunteered in a wing of it with kids who have cerebral palsy. Most of the kids couldn’t talk or move a lot, but we talked to them and played with them. There were a few kids who were more active who we played ball with. There were these 2 kids, Henry and Elmer who were amazing!!! They were learning how to walk and had the most mobility out of all the kids. The last day we were there I had SO much fun just wrestling with them and playing with them!! I couldn’t stop laughing!!! We also helped with feeding the kids and putting them in their cribs for nap time. I did talk to some of the older kids about Jesus, but I don’t know if they understood. I loved the hospital and had so much fun!!!

Dump ministry- We only went once to this, but we met up with this group who goes to the dump and preaches to all the people who live there and we handed out bibles and food. It was really cool because we came in contact with some people who we had already talked to them about Jesus, so it was good to give them a bible so they could learn more.
