Debriefing: noun – report of a mission or task
Debrief: verb – put someone through a debriefing and make him report
Ho Chi Minh City: Largest city in Vietnam (approximately 9 million people), formerly known as Saigon.
We left Darwin and went straight to Ho Chi Minh City, which entailed sleeping in the airport at Singapore overnight. That in itself was a neat experience. The Singapore airport is massive, and includes features such as a Koi Pond and a free movie theater! But among the first things noticed in Vietnam is that they drive on the right hand side of the road, in cars with the steering wheel on the left. And motorbikes easily outnumber cars and pedestrians here.
At any rate, the reason we are here for 1 week is for a debrief. Each team gets time with the squad leaders, Justin & Patrice, as well as time with Steve & Wanda (sort of our squad's emotional wellness sponsors, aka, 'coaches'.) This time is designed to uncover specific problem areas that each team and team members are dealing with. For example, maybe a team is having trouble following their appointed leader, or perhaps there are some romance issues arising between teammates that need to be addressed. It could be any number of things, and it's the job of the squad leaders and Steve & Wanda to find resolution.
So what about me and my team? Well, we function pretty well as a unit with a relatively high level of solidarity. We do however still have some shortfalls, nothing that can't be worked out in this coming month though. So ultimately, debrief has been a period of reflection in anticipation of changes that will come next month, i.e.; team changes, leader changes, and new squad leaders, who, as I've been told, will be women, as it is the policy of the World Race to put women in leadership positions.
Please pray for continuation of my own refinement and willingness to submit to the authority placed over me for the next 9 months. Please pray for the ones who are chosen to be leaders of teams and squads, that their decisions be measured according to the will of God, and that those who are choosing the leaders seek God's voice with great diligence, refusing to hear their own voice and souls in the matter. Lastly, please submit your own prayer requests to me, as I am in the presence of ones who pray sincerely to our Father.
Thank you for all your support, and here's a little video of the pedicab ride that resulted in me being ripped off:
