Our
team went out one night for dinner in Kitale, Kenya. As we were
walking at night in the dark to get a ride back home a young man came
beside me and started talking.

To
give some insight to Kitale, there are numerous street kids that ask
you for money or food everytime you enter the city. Most of them that
I met through the month were sniffing glue, not in a right state of
mind, and most likley very hungry. Most of the time when I would see
these kids they instantly would hold out there hand. It was difficult
to communicate with them because we don’t speak the same language.

Immediately
as I met this kid that night, there was something different about
him. He started asking me questions, like what I was doing in Kitale.
I told him we were working with a church. This immediatley led us
into talking about God. He told me he was angry with God beacuse of
things that happended in his life. His parents had died and he was
living on the streets. I had to catch our ride home, but we got to
talk a little more and introduce ourselves; his name was Peter.

He
asked me to pray for him and I did. I thought about him a lot. I
prayed for him every day, for God to reveal Himself to Peter. I
prayed that Peter knew God was for him, not against him, that Peter
would desire to know his Father.

About
a week later, I was waiting outside for some team mates to finish up
in a store and while I was waiting I prayed. I started praying to God
that if someone needed to hear about Him, then that person would come
to me and I could be used to speak God’s truth. About two minutes
later, a young man stood on the curb about ten feet from me looking
right at me. I didnt really think anything of it untill I noticed
that he kept looking at me. So I went over and introduced myself. In
respone he said, “Hi I’m Peter.” I asked him if he was the
same Peter I met the other night. He said Yes. (It was pitch black
upon first meeting Peter)

God
is incredible. How he works things out, for His glory, for His
children. We got to talk more. Peter was a sixteen year old young
man, who had been living on the streets for a year. He was able to go
to school up untill our equivalant of 8th grade, but then did not
have money to go on to highschool. He had left his brother and other
family becuse, from what I understood, they wanted him to join in
shooting and killing. He choose to live on the streets rather then be
a part of the evil. He was taking small jobs to earn money to open a
CD shop, his vision to earn a living and a home for himself. I had
so much respect for the life he was living. I would have loved to
continue a friendship with Peter, but for us this year we move on
quickly (I gave him our blog beacuse he has a friend that lets him
use a computer and hope to hear from him). An amazing guy seeking for
an opportunity to get his feet on the ground.

I
told him about a community worship we just went to the day before
with Love Mercy, in hopes he could connect to some of the awesome
people through there. I hope that he could find a church with a
pastor he trusted. But more importantly, that he seek God in all that
he does.

God
answered my prayer for that moment and I know He will answer my
prayer that Peter will soon know God as his Father too.
