Our team-Imago Dei and Squad leaders Tara and Krissy, had the honor of being invited to go to an Indian-Nepalese wedding last weekend! It was more than a great cultural experience as we traveled to our contact’s hometown two hours from where we’ve been based this month.
The bride was our contact’s sister-in-law and she was really excited to have us come and celebrate with her!
We met the bride, from India, and groom, from Nepal and the immediate family members for the first time upon arrival and already we were welcomed like part of the family.
Early the next morning they invited us to come to their home for breakfast while they altered some of their personal Sari’s (traditional Indian dress) for all of us women to wear to the wedding. They had over a 100 for us to chose from, so many beautiful colors to fit each one of us.
The bride’s grandmother was busy at the sewing machine, making the tops fit just right and the bride was giddy with excitement as she showed us their engagement photos.
The bride made us feel like we were her sisters. The bride’s sister’s delicately wrapped the beautiful Sari’s around us and we all felt like princesses by the time we were fitted and ready for the wedding.
The bride asked us to perform a special song for the wedding, our gift to the couple. Everyone was so colorful at the wedding in their Sari’s. The family even asked us to join in the family photos at the reception and we left, just 24 hours after first meeting them, feeling like we had new family in Malaysia.
