Some people find their group of friends through the soccer team. Some from the sign language club. Others find their group in math class. I never really had a “group” in high school. Yes, I had friends; from the friends I grew up with, to my dance team.
These friendships were great, but I never found myself completely comfortable with them. I didn’t really fit in with these people and felt like the odd person out sometimes. I was left uninvited to events and out of the loop during conversations.
God has definitely blessed me with all the doors the World Race has opened up for me. One of the biggest blessings already has been 40 or so brothers and sisters in Christ, also known as my squad. The World Race creates teams of about 40-50 people, gives them a different letter of the alphabet and calls them a squad. There are 3 squads that are a part of The World Race Gap Year and each will be travelling to separate countries. I am a part of the BEST squad, C Squad!! (Yes, I am a little biased)
When I was added to this squad in late December, there were only about 15 people. Currently there are 38 members on C Squad! C Squad has truly some of the most amazing people I have ever met. They are encouraging, hilarious and kind-hearted. I would have never imagined myself being so close with so many people who I have never even met in person before.
These wonderful people are my group. I have finally found a place where I can just be myself and be loved for it. I know that God has put me and every individual in this group for a special purpose.
Even thinking about spending 9 months with my best friends gets me so excited (and yes I said best friends!!) Even though we have never met before, I feel like I have known them all my entire life. We spend hours upon hours video chatting and there is never a dull moment. We have started to do bible studies with each other over Skype and it is wonderful.
(If you would like to see some of the people in my squad and maybe read some of their stories, you can click on the “Meet My Squad” tab to the left of the home page)
ALSO…
In the very beginning of February, the countries that each squad will be travelling to was released. This came as a huge surprise as we were all told that we would not find out this information until August sometime, a few weeks before we leave.
The countries I will be living in are………..
Guatemala, Malaysia, and Botswana
After the routes were released, we were all given the option to leave the original squad we were assigned to, pick which set of countries we wanted to go to, and to switch to a different squad. We lost people, which was very sad, but we gained new members as well. To me, it didn’t matter where I was going. God had put me on C Squad for a reason and I wouldn’t dare part from my sweet friends.
I am so excited to see what else God has planned for my squad on this incredible journey we are on. Thank you for your continual prayers and support. I am truly grateful for it.
God Bless,
Bri
