I’m sitting here in Cambodia having taught English for just over two weeks now and one week remains. I couldn’t figure out what to write so here are a few random things I’ve learned thus far
-English is a confusing language (how did it get so popular?)
-Hammock huts are awesome, especially in a torrential downpour
-Showering once a week is possible even here (I think this is like the fourth month I’ve managed it!)
-Washing clothes is also unnecessary (I feel like I could go for several months back home without washing my clothes now…I might try)
-Puppies are cute, so long as they aren’t clawing at my legs or chewing my toes
-Dog doesn’t taste all that different from any other type of meat
-My reading speed has gone up drastically (7 books so far this month) or I use all my free time reading either one (do I need a new hobby? Any suggestions?)
-The stars at night are big in bright, deep in the heart of Cambodia (isn’t that how the song goes)
-I can buy waffles even here, made over a fire at the side of a highway but hey they’re waffles! (Also you can get ten for like $0.37 with a local friend, though try and get twelve without him and you’ll be paying double…I guess $0.75 still isn’t that much to feed 7 people breakfast)
-Having a store across the road that sells Oreos can empty your wallet if your not careful
-The beaches have black sand! Which they cover with the boring regular tan stuff for some reason…
-Living with a new group of people every three months is hard
-I’ve become lazy in taking opportunities, like leading bible studies, praying or preaching (that’s part of what I came for after all. I no longer want to wait and see who will volunteer, I’m just going to and see who eventually speaks before I do)
-Prayer is essential
-I want to understand the love God has for me, so that I can show that same love to others.
Well there you have it a few of the things I’ve learned this month. Also there are some pictures of my time here if you keep scrolling down!
