If you haven’t yet had the privilege of seeing the movie “Faith Like Potatoes” then stop reading…

I’m serious, I will spoil it.

If you’re still reading then either you don’t take me seriously or you really don’t want to see the movie 😉

I watched “Faith Like Potatoes” with my family a couple nights ago and God used it to confirm a few things He’s been teaching me these last few weeks. Like what? Well, God has been teaching me about how I need to just let Him work out the details of how I am going to pay for this Race. I know what you’re thinking, “just another post about money”. But keep reading. Seriously.

Angus, the man that “Faith Like Potatoes” is about, was told by God to plant potatoes in the middle of a drought. I don’t know much about potatoes, but apparently they need a lot of water and so him putting all his money into potatoes to plant was very bad business. Not to mention that he had a wife and kids to provide for. All the other farmers thought he was crazy and didn’t plant anything. Even his pastor was questioning him, and after 3 or 4 months there wasn’t much to show for his efforts. The plants looked like they were dying, and since potatoes grow underground he couldn’t see how they were actually doing. He had to have faith that God knew what He was talking about.

I have allowed myself to get very discouraged at times in the last few weeks, and I have allowed others to discourage me instead of living in faith that God would provide. (1 John 5:14-15) I kept expecting some major donation that would pay off my account, or something like that. 🙂 However, I think that God has told me that it won’t be one large donation, but many smaller ones that will pay for this Race, this adventure that He has called me to and that “begins” in 10 days. It’s like having faith that the potatoes are growing without any rain. (I put “begins” in quotes b/c the adventure really began when I told God I would go anywhere He sent me)

Some questions I’ve been asking myself lately are: “Will people still donate after I leave the States?” “Do people really care about what God is doing with my life?” It’s questions like these that allow Satan to grab that foothold and let doubts creep in and push out faith in God and His provision; faith that He will do what He said and in past experience that proves it. (Mark 5:36b)

Guess what happened when Angus and his farm manager went out to harvest the potatoes? They dug up the biggest potatoes that anyone in the area had ever seen. Do you know what happens when we live in faith and obedience? God is allowed to show up and work His way in and through us.

I have received quite a few small donations in the last week or two that have added up to quite a bit and I am now only about $300 short of the goal of having $8,000 in my account before I leave. Do I know for sure where the rest will come from? Of course I do. It will come from God. He is all I need and if He asks you to give then He is asking you to participate in this adventure of trusting Him. Will you join?

(I told you I was going to spoil the movie, but that’s not the whole movie, so please go rent it and see for yourself!)

“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” ~Jude 24-25 (NASB)
