So I thought I’d let everyone get better acquainted with my 4 awesome teammates by featuring them each in a muy especial blog, and Jarin’s up first!

NAME: Jarin Harvey

AGE: 25

NATIONALITY: Canadian (though I’m constantly forgetting… :D)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • She works out every morning at around 5 am. Yeah, girl is intense.
  • She’d known about the race for a lonngggg time before she finally decided to go on it.
  • She went to YWAM and did one of their discipleship training schools in Australia.
  • She’d love to go to a Mumford and sons concert (me too, for that matter).
  • She doesn’t like rice but she’s a champ and eats it when she can (it’s probably been our number one food group so far on the race).
  • She loves to talk about food just as much as I do—which is a lot.
  • We’re equally good at singing…meaning her and I tend to inch toward the back when our team is called up to the front of the church for an impromptu song.
  • Her testimony is amazing and is going to change/changing lives and you should really ask her about it sometime.
  • She hates spiders. I have to kill them for her sometimes (because I’m such a good friend ;))

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT JARIN:

  • Her intense love of ketchup…and how that love is quickly spreading to the rest of the team.
  • The way she gives feedback…it’s always gentle and said in the right way for the person to receive it.
  • HER CLOTHES. At any given time, probably at least 50% of our team is wearing something of Jarin’s.
  • She reads her bible pretty much everyday like a true champ
  • She’s the best listener. If you ever have to give a speech or sermon (or testimony all in Spanish), you should definitely look at her. It’s very comforting.
  • She doesn’t really like to play cards but she still plays them, just for us.

FAVORITE MEMORY: Well…there’s too many to count at this point, but it’d probably have to be the infamous ‘knee sweat’ incident. Let’s just say we were crammed into a van with about 50 other people and knees were pressed very, very close together. We’ll leave it at that.

FUN FACTS:

  • Jarin’s brother and sister-in-law live in Ireland! Her brother is currently in medical school there
  • We have veryyyy similar taste in music. I always know when she puts her jams that it’s going to be a good time.
  • She reads ridiculously fast. I don’t know how many books she’s read on this race so far, but it’s definitely A WHOLE LOT
  • We’re probably going to move to Spain together (…or some country in Europe) after the race.
  • She would die working a cubicle , 9-5 type job.
  • She has a hidden talent for painting cement lawn ornaments 😀
  • Give her a smoothie or a salad (or both) and she’s the happiest camper you’ll ever find
