So I was attending a 20's ministry as a local church. They happened to be in the middle of a series about the sermon on the mount. So I looked at the little handout that i got at the front door and this here below is the scripture that we were going over that night.
Matthew 7:21-28
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching
I enjoy reading the passage before the speaker gets going, because I just like to know what's going on before the ball gets rolling. I had this CRAZY urge to start writing about the passage. So as I normally do I started typing away on my phone. The Sermon had already started before I finished(so I'm sure since I was sitting in the second row that people were scoffing at me for being on my phone… GET OVER IT) As I was typing I really didn't put too much thought behind what I was typing. I hate thinking too much because that just leads to over thinking, and well I enjoy just letting the Holy Spirit give me what to write. Which some times I'll admit it turns out some what dumb or just doesn't make all the much sense. BUT this time when I finished and read what I had wrote all I could do was thank God at that very moment for giving me those words. They may not mean much to you but here they are. This is the commentary I wrote about Matthew 7:21-28
How elaborate is your front? Other people see you as a Christian but are you? Authentic faith goes deeper then words. How can you enter the kingdom of heaven with only words? True faith must coarse through our veins and run deep into our hearts and exude out through our body and in our life. What marks your true faith? Is it only externals? Or is it from something deeper. Real faith is not based on works. Good works are the fruits not the roots.
I read that and was pleasantly surprised. I don't know how much weight that little tid bit might have carried with you but it hit me rather hard. All I could do was then think about what verses 21 and 22 were saying. Some people call it the most dangerous verse in the bible. I cant imagine one single Christian being able to read that verse and not apply it to their life and ask, just question if that applies to them. Even if it happens to be a simple and quick answer. Also I don't think that you, yes YOU, should ever forget this verse. This verse should be your biggest weapon in your arsenal of self conviction. Anytime and EVERY TIME you are doing something for Christ or because you're a Christian, you should read this verse and ask yourself if its true about you in this new situation. Honestly I believe that this verse if everyone applied it to their life like I just said would crush so many things in our life that we think is for God but is really only for God on the surface. Maybe that's why I don't consider it the most dangerous verse. To me it is the Deadliest verse
