so it’s funny how the Lord takes one thing and turns it into another. today i wanted to take some cute litte pictures of kids wearing a whistle that a friend gave me, so he could put them on his website. innocent enough motives, but somewhat selfish… well as He usually does, the Lord had a different idea. Cindy and i went to the tunnel. pictured below is the entrance to the tunnel, with a few photos from inside.

some young adults that live in the squatter community inside the tunnel

farther down the path that leads into the “houses” of the community.

so once inside the tunnel we met up with jason, a man who lives with his mother and sister in the community. he speaks decent english, so he has appointed himself as our tour guide whenever we come in. as soon as we got inside he took us to the house of two very old ladies, and told us about the help they needed. Olga and Basing are both easily in their 80’s, have no income for food, no immediate family to support them, many health problems, and probably weigh 100 lbs between the two of them. Jason told us they hadn’t eaten since yesterday, and were only eating once a day. Olga has one eye that is clouded over and obviously doesn’t work, and Basing has just gotten out of the hospital for lung problems. they cook inside the house, so it is smokey from the charcoal, and there is no airflow whatsoever. Cindy and I both felt a need to get them some food, so we gave Jason 100 peso;s (a little over $2) and he bought them two Kilo’s of rice, some sardines, and some noodles. then we got to pray over them. they were so thankful, both cried, and could not stop thanking us. it was amazing to see the Lord work through us, even though we could not speak their language, understand what they said, we could pray for them, and i truly believe they understood that more than bringing them food, we were showing them the love of the Father, who has not forgotten them, when it seems everyone else has.

then it was time for some more…

This is Mario and his family (with our tour guide Jason to the right). This family is a light in a dark place. the entire community in the tunnel has a fairly dark feeling to it, with lots of perversion, drunkeness, and laziness exuding whenever you walk in. This family is going to, by the blood of Jesus, change that community. Mario used to have a men’s bible study that he led, and we are praying he is able to start another one. His granddaughter (the one in the middle with the bandage on her forehead) is sick, and they recently took her to a “spiritual doctor.” he told them that she had a curse on her because another family member was mad at them and put it on her. when they told us this, Cindy immediately felt like we needed to pray for her, so we sat down with the family, and laid hands on her. as Jason translated Cindy led her through the salvation prayer, and then boldly asked the Lord to heal her, and in the name of Jesus for any evil spirits that had been cast on her to leave! we prayed for awhile over each member of the family, asking the Lord to bless Mario, the head of the family, and everyone else as they minister to the people in the tunnel. i am excited to see what the Lord is going to do through this family, please keep them in your prayers, as the devil will definitely be on the attack as they boldly shine brightly for Jesus in that dark place.

and of course one cute little girl who was thoroughly confused by the double flash on my camera…

love. obedience.
