I am in one of the most dangerous places in North and South America and I love it! The more I walk in the path He has laid out for me, the safer I feel and truly am! A lot has happened in our first week in Honduras. I am going to share with you a piece of what happened Wednesday and hopefully as I have time and process more, more will come.
On Wednesday, we went evangelizing. Oh, one thing I will share with you is that Honduras will test your patience. You have to wait all the time and plans will change ten times before something happens. That being said, we had no idea what to expect. Which I am pretty sure, didn’t keep us from having expectations. They were blown away.
After a brief introduction, we set out. I was told that we were going to pray for an alcoholic that they knew. We walked out the door and walk two houses down and there he was standing in the street. I didn’t even realize that the man they were talking to was the one we were looking for. I could feel the shame and guilt on this man. I was able to share my story with him and then pray for him. Tears were inevitable. At this point there was an audience that had come out to see what was going on.
I am going to tell you about one man in particular. His name is Javier. Ok, hold on. I really need to stop right here and give Jesus all the glory. He is the only reason that anything that I do works. So to paint a picture, Javier is a mid-forties Honduran man. He had his shirt off because about a minute before he started talking to me, he was on the verge of fighting another guy. Did I mention that he was wasted? His breath reeked of alcohol and he stood so close that we were almost chest to chest.
Initially, most of what he had to say was centered on mocking me and God. Oh, he didn’t speak much English and my Spanish is terrible, so we needed a translator. Her name is Vivian and she is awesome. So we were telling him about Jesus and he stops me and basically tells me that he was the devils property. That there was no way that he could be forgiven for what he had done. At this point I jumped into my story and told him the things that I had been forgiven. He one upped me! Javier looks me dead in the eyes and tells me that he’s killed twelve people. I think that he expected me to get scared and shrink away. I kept eye contact and told him that Jesus loved him and had already forgiven him. I know this rocked his world because not much longer afterwards, Javier was asking Christ into his heart. Haha!!! How great is our God!!!
Redemption is free for those who want to give it a chance!
